Richard Bowman Myers (born 1 March 1942) is a retired United States Air Forcegeneral who served as the 15th chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. As chairman, Myers was the highest ranking uniformed officer of the United States military forces. He also served as the 14th president of Kansas State University from 2016 to 2022.
Myers became the chairman of the Joint Chiefs on 1 October 2001. In this capacity, he served as the principal military advisor to the president, the secretary of defense, and the National Security Council during the earliest stages of the War on Terror, including planning and execution of the 2003 invasion of Iraq. On 30 September 2005, he retired and was succeeded by General Peter Pace. His Air Force career included operational command and leadership positions in a variety of Air Force and Joint assignments.

General Richard B. Myers became the fifteenth Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on Oct. 1, 2001. In this capacity, he serves as the principal military advisor to the President, the Secretary of Defense, and the National Security Council. Prior to becoming Chairman, he served as Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff for 19 months.
General Myers was born in Kansas City, Missouri. He is a 1965 graduate of Kansas State University, and holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Auburn University. The General has attended the Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama; the U.S. Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania; and the Program for Senior Executives in National and International Security at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.

Richard Myers was born on March 1, 1942, in Kansas City, Missouri. He was commissioned a 2d Lt in the U.S. Air Force through the Air Force ROTC program at Kansas State University on February 3, 1965, and went on active duty beginning June 5, 1965. Lt Myers next completed Undergraduate Pilot Training at Vance AFB, Oklahoma, in June 1966, followed by F-4 Phantom II combat crew training and then service as an F-4D pilot with the 417th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Ramstein AB, West Germany, and then Mountain Home AFB, Idaho, until April 1969. Lt Myers was assigned to the F-4 Replacement Training Unit at Homestead AFB, Florida, from April to December 1969, and then served as an F-4D pilot with the 13th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Udorn Royal Thai AFB, Thailand, from December 1969 to November 1970. His next assignment was as an F-4C pilot with the 80th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Yokota AB, Japan, from December 1970 to March 1971, followed by service as an F-4 weapons and tactics officer with the 67th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Kadena AB, Okinawa, from March 1971 to August 1973.
