Supervisor Rafael Mandelman
Supervisor Mandelman represents District 8 on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. District 8 includes the Castro, Glen Park, Noe Valley, Diamond Heights, Mission Dolores, and Cole Valley. Supervisor Mandelman is one of the LGBTQ members of the Board of Supervisors, and throughout his first term, was one of the only LGBTQ Supervisors in Northern California.
Reforming our Behavioral Health System
Since joining the Board of Supervisors in July 2018, Supervisor Mandelman has worked to address the City's mental health and substance use crises, serving as Co-chair of the 2019 Methamphetamine Task Force, co-authoring legislation to allow San Francisco to pursue temporary conservatorships for people with severe mental health and substance use disorders, and authoring legislation to streamline the creation of new Board and Care Facilities and preserve existing facilities. Mandelman earned an undergraduate degree from Yale University, a master's degree in public policy from Harvard University, and a J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. His experience includes work as an urban development attorney and service as a commissioner on the San Francisco Board of Appeals, the chair of the San Francisco LGBT Center, and the president of the Noe Valley Democratic Club and the District 8 Democratic Club.[1]

Rafael Mandelman (born October 17, 1973) is an American attorney and politician currently serving as the president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, representing District 8.[1][2]
Early life
Mandelman grew up in Laguna Beach, California with his mother. His parents divorced when he was three. His mother had various mental disorders and was regularly in and out of the hospital. At 11 years old, his relatives convinced Mandelman to move to San Francisco, where his paternal grandmother was. But she was too old to take care of him so he lived between homes.[3] Mandelman attended Brandeis Hillel Day School and Lick-Wilmerding High School.[3]
Mandelman earned a B.A. in History from Yale College, a Master of Public Policy from Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, and a J.D. from UC Berkeley’s School of Law.[4]
