Pakistani Caretaker Government in 1990

The Jatoi caretaker government was the first caretaker government in Pakistan from 6 August 1990 to 6 November 1990. Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi acted as the first caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan.[1] The Jatoi government was appointed by Ghulam Ishaq Khan, who was president, after he dissolved the National Assembly and the PPPBhutto government in August of the same year. Jatoi previously served as leader of the opposition in the assembly, whilst other caretaker ministers were selected based on their opposition to the PPP.[2] Jatoi himself was a former Pakistan People's Party member who formed his own rival National Peoples Party (NPP) after a dispute with Benazir Bhutto. The caretaker government consisted of anti-PPP ministers in the provinces as-well. Ghulam Haider Wyne, an ally of Nawaz Sharif, was caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, while in Sindh caretaker Chief Minister Jam Sadiq Ali opposed the PPP. Later Jam Sadiq Ali continued in office as Chief Minister following elections.

Abstract

Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi was born (August, 14. 1931 - November, 20 .2009) was the son of Khan Bahadur Ghulam Rasool Khan Jatoi and his grandfather’s name was Khan Bahadur Imam Bakhsh Khan Jatoi who was also a great poet. He became the Chief Minister (1973 to 1977) and Caretaker Prime Minister (from 6th August 1990 to 6th November 1990) of Pakistan. Jatoi sahib become MNA seven times and MPA two times in his political life. Because of remaining linked with MRD (Movement for Restoration of Democracy) after pledge of Martial law Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi was arrested two times 1983 and 1985. Ghulam Mustafa Khan Jatoi has five sons Rais Ghulam Murtaza, Rais Masroor Ahmed Khan, Rais Arif Mustafa Khan, Rais Asif Mustafa Khan and Rais Tariq Mustafa Khan as well as three daughters. Till the execution of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto up to 1979; Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi remained closest friend to him.. He was selected as Chairman of District Local Board Nawabshah two times in 1953 and 1956.
