Joe Atkins (b. October 6, 1965) is a former Democratic-Farmer-Labor member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, representing District 52B from 2003 to 2017.

Atkins did not seek re-election to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 2016.[1]

Prior to joining the House, Atkins served as Mayor of Inner Grove Heights from 1992 to 2002, and was Director of the Inner Grove Heights School Board from 1987 to 1990.

Biography

Atkins earned his B.A. in political science from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities; and his J.D. from the William Mitchell College of Law. His professional experience includes working as an attorney with Thuet, Pugh, Rogosheske, and Atkins.[2]

Joseph Atkins (born October 6, 1965) is a Minnesota attorney and former member of the Minnesota House of Representatives. A member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL), he represented District 52B, which included portions of Dakota County in the southeastern Twin Cities metropolitan area.[1]

Early life, education, and career

Born in South St. Paul, Atkins grew up in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota. After graduating from Simley High School in 1984, he earned his B.A. from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in 1988 and his Juris Doctor magna cum laude from William Mitchell College of Law in Saint Paul in 1991. While in college and law school, he worked full-time as a law clerk and started a legal investigation business.

Atkins has been practicing law since 1991. He is a partner in the law firm of Thuet, Pugh, Rogosheske & Atkins in South St. Paul, one of Minnesota's oldest law firms. He also does significant pro bono work for those who cannot affo

Joseph Atkins grew up in Bristol and read music at New College, Oxford and Composition at the Royal Academy of Music.

Concert works include pieces for the Lichfield Festival, Song in the City, BBC Elstree Concert Band, the Metier Ensemble, the Spitalfields Festival, COMA London, the Longfordbrown Piano Duo and the New Cambridge Singers. He is also the composer of three sacred works for the historic London Bridge church of St Magnus the Martyr, including the Missa Sancti Magni for solo clarinet and vocal quartet.

Joe writes extensively for the theatre, specialising in work that crosses genres. Recent collaborations include music and lyrics for Carnation for a Song, a community musical for the Young Vic Theatre, written with Megan Cronin, music for Not Such Quiet Girls, a musical play by Jessica Walker for Opera North and the Leeds Playhouse, incidental music for Cush Jumbo’s Olivier-nominated Josephine and I for the Bush Theatre, London and Public Theater, New York, and Songs for Our Times, a filmed concert for the Lichfield Festival written in response to the co
