Former Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, has opened up on the inner battle she experienced after she was made to step down in 2018, over a certificate scandal.
Adeosun, whose National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) was forged, resigned months after an investigative online platform broke the story.
Speaking at the 10th anniversary of the “Uncommon Woman Conference” organised by the Jesus House Church, United Kingdom, Adeosun said she wept every day without working for three months.

She said everything about her life was at a standstill while she had to deal with shame, betrayal, disappointment and humiliation.
“That period of life was tough for me. I went to step into the shoes of someone like Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. So, I was under fire from day one, it looked like things were not working. Then all of a sudden, the economy started to improve. It was like I was beginning to see the desired result. Then out of nowhere, the certificate scandal came. And before I knew it, everything turned upside down. And that was how the issue went viral.”

I was never a fan of the now former Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun. I’m also not a fan of the NYSC programme – as I wrote here in December 2016, the programme is an immoral and unfair use of resources. It is also important to remember that Mrs Adeosun’s crime was using a forged certificate. Against that, there is no defence.
But in her resignation letter to the president, something interesting was revealed. As is known, she was born in the UK but the first time she ever got a Nigerian passport, according to her, was when she was 34 years old. If you graduate after you turn 30, you are exempted from the NYSC. But what if you become a Nigerian citizen after 30? Why did Mrs Adeosun need an exemption certificate anyway?
The Nigerian constitution takes an expansive view of citizenship. This is not surprising once you understand it was written by Marxists and unreconstructed communists. Apparently you are a ‘citizen’ if your parents are Nigerians. But here we see
