The life of Sting
He was born Gordon Matthew Sumner back in the fall of 1951 in a working class district in Northern England. By the age of 17, he simply became known as Sting. He’s been making music for a quarter century — winning 15 Grammys and millions of fans world wide. He just released his 10th solo album called “Sacred Love.” And now at the age of 52, he’s written an autobiography. Sting is ready to talk about the forces that shaped him and made him who he is today. Here's an excerpt of “Broken Music: A Memoir."
*Warning: This book excerpt contains language that may not be appropriate for children.*
Music has always been my refuge from sadness. The guitar I inherited from my uncle John now has decent strings, and I’m no longer making the “broken” music that so upset my grandmother; in fact I’m making a lot of progress, but the limitations of my first instrument are holding me back. There are things that I simply can’t do with this primitive heirloom.
From the money I earned on the milk rounds I have saved up enough for a new acoustic guitar that I’ve had my eye on.
