We have been wanting to catch hold of this magnificent photographer for quite some time for an interview and here we have Kilian Schonberger. Incredible Photographer from Germany who has a very fluent passage from moving from an amateur photographer to a professional level. In this beautiful space, he shares his ideas of photography, his inspirations, post-processing techniques, and some should-follow tips for aspirants.

Speaking about his pictures, what amazes me is the vivid wideness and gentle calmness of the magnificent nature. His point of view in most of these photographs is very commanding and takes his photography to another level.

I’m a professional photographer & geographer from Germany; born in 1985. My aspiration was always to cut my path as a photographer with an own creative perspective – despite beeing colourblind. I recognized that I could turn this so-called disadvantage into a strength, too and developed my own unique photographic view: E.g. while getting a picture of a chaotic forest scene, I can’t clearly distinguish the different green and brown tones. Brushing aside this “handicap” I don’t care about those tones and just concentrate on the patterns of the wood to achieve an impressive image structure. Currently I have two residences: One in Cologne and one near Ratisbona in Bavaria. My photographic work concerns the whole range of topics from natural landscapes to cityscapes. Remote rural areas are photographically as interesting as the lifestyle and architecture of urban melting pots. Kilian Schönberger was born in 1985 in Bavaria, near the German-Czech border. He had a deep connection to nature, as the gate in the fence of his parents’ garden was the entrance to a forest. So Kilian grew up in the huge forests along the former Iron Curtain.

Already as a child he was interested in nature and spent long hours outdoors in the forest most of the time. After finishing school, Kilian Schönberger spent a year in the Bavarian Alps and then began studying geography in the former capital Bonn. Field trips with the university took him to Switzerland, Egypt, Norway, Iceland and the Faroe Islands between 2006 and 2010. During these trips, Kilian discovered digital photography as an optimal tool to combine geography and the visual experience of wild landscapes. A discovery that, basically, would change his life forever.

Little by little landscape photography became more and more important for the geographer. After finishing university in 2012, Kilian Schönberger started working as a full-time freelance photographer with a clear specialization in landscape photography
