Oakville, ON: To date, Tammy Sutton-Brown is the only female from Ontario, or Canada for that fact to currently suit up in a WNBA uniform.Sutton-Brown was one of our GTA’s most talented athletes. She attended Markham High (Markham, Ontario) and led the Maurauders to 4 consecutive regional championships. Considering her standout performances in Ontario, Tammy was a player that many coaches both in Canada and America pursued heavily. In her senior year of high school Sutton-Brown committed and signed to play under Hall of Famer Coach Vivian Stringer at Rutgers University.

Tammy’s ability to adjust her style of play from home in Canada to the American fast paced, more physical game was second to none. In her Freshman year she played an integral role on her team as a presence inside. By the time Sutton-Brown was a junior she led her Rutgers team to their 1st ever Final Four appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Over her years at Rutgers Tammy was soon referred to as Simba, (Lion King) because of her growth process on the court while she was in University.

“Swimming was my first love. I was on the fast-track to Olympic swimming,” she remembers. “But my mom didn’t think a 10 year-old should be waking up early in the mornings before school to train,” she chuckles. “She wanted me to be a kid”.

Canada also didn’t get to see Sutton-Brown become a champion in the professional leagues in Korea (2004) and Turkey (2007-2011).

Growing up in Markham, Ontario, Sutton-Brown’s early exposure to organized basketball started in the Markham Unionville Minor Basketball Association’s (MUMBA) house league. She remembers being about 13 years old - taller than most kids even t

My passion for travel and learning about what different countries and cultures have to offer has broadened my perspective on life. I have drawn upon my own international travel experiences to create a children’s book series that focuses on travel adventure. My personal motivation for writing this series is to encourage early literacy and have children engaged in what they are reading. I present to you “The Adventures of Cree and Scooter.” Cree and Scooter Hit the Slopes in British Columbia is the first in The Adventures of Cree and Scooter series. It is a completed 84 page book, with the last 20 pages an activity zone. It is this inclusion of hands on activities that makes this book completely different from all other children’s books. The Adventures of Cree and Scooter is a series geared toward children aged 4 to 8, and it exposes readers to various cultures in an age appropriate manner.
