Alesana (AL-iss-AN-ə) is an American post-hardcore band from Raleigh, North Carolina.[1] The group was founded by Shawn Milke, Dennis Lee, Patrick Thompson, Steven Tomany and Daniel Magnuson during the fall of 2004, and is currently signed to Revival Recordings and Artery Recordings. In total, Alesana has released five full-length studio albums and three EPs.

The band initially received underground attention shortly after the release of the debut On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax, featuring a musical style influenced by pop, punk, metal and classic rock.

Shawn Milke and Patrick Thomson were both living in Baltimore, Maryland in the early 2000s where they both played in different bands. Alesana (pronounced /ˈælɨs ˈænə/ Alice-Anna) is an american post-hardcore band from Raleigh, North Carolina formed 2004. The band has released five full-length albums and one EP to date. The band gained a wide audience after their debut, On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax was released, featuring a musical style shifting between light and heavy sounds along with a wide influence ranging to even classic rock bands such as The Beatles. Their band name is derived from street named Aliceanna St., which is located in Baltimore where the group originated.

Current members are Dennis Lee (screaming vocals), Shawn Milke (lead vocals, guitars, piano, synth, keys, programming, string composition), Patrick Thompson (lead guitar, backing vocals), Shane Crump (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Jake Campbell (rhythm guitar, backing vocals).

Former members were Adam Ferguson (rhythm guitar, vocals), Steven Tomany (bass), Will Anderson (drums), Daniel Magnuson (drums)and Jeremy Bryan (drums)

This phrase, uttered by an unknown announcer to a murmuring crowd, is what kicks off Alesana's fourth full-length, A Place Where The Sun Is Silent and hopefully it's enough notice to inform the listener that they're in for an hour of the most inventive music they've ever heard. Since forming in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 2004 Alesana have been creating some of the most cerebral and theatrical music the underground has to offer--and the band's Epitaph debut sees them transcending scenes and genres to craft something truly unique and original.
