Gaspard Monge, Comte de Péluse (French pronunciation:[ɡaspaʁmɔ̃ʒkɔ̃tdəpelyz]; 9 May 1746[2] – 28 July 1818)[3] was a French mathematician, commonly presented as the inventor of descriptive geometry,[4][5] (the mathematical basis of) technical drawing, and the father of differential geometry.[6] During the French Revolution he served as the Minister of the Marine, and was involved in the reform of the French educational system, helping to found the École Polytechnique.

Biography

Early life

Monge was born at Beaune, Côte-d'Or, the son of a merchant. He was educated at the college of the Oratorians at Beaune.[5] In 1762 he went to the Collège de la Trinité at Lyon, where, one year after he had begun studying, he was made a teacher of physics[5] at the age of just seventeen.[7]

Le lycée Gaspard-MongeLa Chauvinière est un établissement français public d'enseignement secondaire général et technologique situé à Nantes (Loire-Atlantique), dans le quartier Nantes Nord.

Origine du nom

L'École professionnelle municipale prend le nom du lieu-dit « La Chauvinière » lors de son transfert en 1963. C'est d'ailleurs ce nom qui est conservé par le lycée professionnel.

Le lycée polyvalent quant à lui est baptisé en 1985 « lycée Gaspard-Monge », en hommage à Gaspard Monge (1746 - 1818), mathématicien français ayant enseigné les sciences physiques dès l'âge de seize ans, et qui a eu comme élèves de futurs grands mathématiciens français du XIXe siècle. On Thursday 11 April, we took part in the Job Dating event organised by the Lycée Gaspard Monge in Chambéry.

The aim of this initiative was to present our company to the younger generation and to meet applicants for apprenticeships in BTS Mechanics and Boilermaking, with a view to opening up work-linked positions from September 2024.

We were delighted to be able to talk to the future students about career opportunities within our company.
