In 1849, Poe was still sharing a home with Mrs. Clemm in New York, in the same little cottage where Virginia had died in 1847. Assign the reading of one of the following works of Poe to individuals or small groups based on your knowledge of your students (and without identifying the author). Ask students to consider what kind of person is likely to have written each; tell them they will be creating psychological portraits of the "authors."
