"On December 8 university students celebrate my birthday” Vili Kazasyan loved to joke, as he was born on this day. He was one of the emblematic conductors, composers, arrangers and pianists in Bulgarian music. His contribution for the development of the BNR Big Band was exceptional and nearly 4 decades of his life were related to the formation. He was also one of the engines of the Golden Orpheus International Festival for pop songs, also of the Melody of the Year annual rankings for Bulgarian pop songs, the Studio 1 TV show and Trombata na Vili (Vili’s Buzzer) – the predecessor of today’s talent discovering formats… The musician passed away 8 years ago and we will remember him as a person of high spirit and of great sense of humor, no matter the numerous obstacles and troubles in his life. The great concert, dedicated to him, which was prepared by his daughter – jazz singer Hilda Kazasyan and other prominent musicians is scheduled exactly on the date of his 82nd birthday.

As the lights shimmered during the 90th anniversary celebration of Bulgarian National Radio (BNR), a wave of emotions washed over me. For me, this was more than a celebration of an institutional milestone - it was a deeply personal journey, filled with memories of my childhood, my family, and the foundation of my cultural identity.

My mother - Yordanka Ferdinandova Koleva - devoted her entire career to BNR, from her student days to retirement. For nearly three decades, she was an integral part of its history. As the senior engineer, she designed studios, supervised the installation of new stereo sound equipment, and worked tirelessly as a sound engineer. Her passion and dedication to this institution were unmatched. She not only grew with BNR but also contributed to its evolution, aligning its progress with the people it served - and with our family.

Vili Kazasyan is a Bulgarian composer and conductor from Armenian origin. Vili Aram Kazasyan was born on December 8,1934 in Sofia, Bulgaria. He graduated in "engineering" at the Technical University (1959), then he has studied at the National Music Academy, Sofia, Bulgaria (1970-1972). He was a member of Union of Bulgarian Composers and Union of Bulgarian Filmmakers. He received the title 'Honored Artist" (1978) and the Order "Cyril and Methodius" (Twice), the Award "Golden Lyre" of for the overall activity of the Bulgarian National Radio's Big Band; Union of Bulgarian Composers' Grand Prix for Lifetime achievement (1987); the Award "Golden Orpheus" for Lifetime achievement (1992); numerous awards for annual "New Bulgarian music." He was a Conductor of the Pop Orchestra (now Big Band of Bulgarian National Radio). In 1953 , he has played in the second edition of "Jazz of the Young."
